How to set-up the visitor kiosk on iOS devices
To use the visitor management tool on an iOS device in kiosk mode, the next process has to be followed:
Firstly, to create a short-cut of the PWA (progressive web application) follow the next steps:
- Enter 'terminal.doorjames.dev' on your browser.
- Select the 'share' option, which on Safari is available on the top right, close to the refresh button, and on Google Chrome it can also be found on the top right corner of the browser.
- From the showed options, select 'Add to home screen' which will create a shortcut on your device.
- The default name 'DoorJames' can be changed if needed.
The second step, after successfully creating the shortcut on your device, is to enable 'Guided Access' so that your device will be locked on the 'Visitor tool'
- On your iPad go to 'Settings' -> 'Accessibility'
- While on 'Accessibility' navigate to the bottom where in the 'General' subsection, the 'Guided Access' option can be found.
- Select 'Guided Access' and press the switch button to turn the option on.
- If selecting the 'Passcode Settings' option, the user can set the passcode (this can also be done while starting the Guided Access mode for the first time) and enable the 'Touch id' option.
After all the previous steps have been completed, follow the next ones to start the terminal application in kiosk mode:
- Go to your 'Home screen' and enter the application by pressing on the shortcut icon, which has been created in the first part of this tutorial.
- Once you are in the application, tap three times the home button to launch the 'Guided Access' mode.
- If a passcode was already provided, the 'Guided Access' mode will ask for it, otherwise, it will ask the user to provide a passcode and to verify it.
- After setting up/entering the passcode, the 'Guided Access' mode is launched, and the iPad will be locked on the 'Visitor management' application.
- To exit the 'Guided Access' mode, press again the home button three times and provide the same passcode to unlock the device.
